You can update your credit card payment details from your account page.

Failed payments

If you received a failed payment notice, don't worry! These things happen.

If you think the payment failure was a mistake, just wait a few days and the system will try again automatically. Your subscription will not be cancelled until after several failed attempts.

However, if you've recently changed credit cards, or if your previous card has expired, follow the instructions below to update your card details automatically

New customers

If you're a new customer and your payment has failed, try the following:

  1. Make sure there are enough funds in your account and there are no security blocks

  2. Confirm that you have entered your billing address, expiration date, and CVV correctly

  3. Tell your bank that you're expecting an international charge denominated in U.S. dollars (they may flag an international charge as suspicious)

Contact us if you continue to have trouble and we can provide the error code from the payment processor, which can help identify the problem.

Update payment details

Existing customers: If you pay by credit card, you can update your card details automatically.

  1. Log into PlainEnglish.com

  2. Go to your Account page and select "Subscriptions"

  3. Select "Update" from the right-hand column

Once you change your card details, your payment will be processed on your next payment date. (If there was a failed payment, it will be processed immediately.)

PayPal

If you pay by PayPal please make sure that there is enough money in your account (and that the backup payment method is up to date). Unfortunately, there is no way to change when PayPal will attempt to take payments, or to know when it will retry failed payments.

If you pay by PayPal, it is not possible to switch to credit card payments. If that is what you want, send us a note and we'll help you cancel your PayPal subscription and start a new one under the same payment terms.
