Writing is an overlooked skill for language learners. But writing can sometimes be the key to improving your speaking.

Think of it this way: writing is like speaking, only with more time to think about what you're going to say.

At Plain English, you can practice your writing by:

Get personal feedback on your writing

At Plain English, you'll learn English Expressions, informal words and phrases, and tools to fill your Toolkit.

But it's not enough just to listen to lessons and read about them. To really learn these things in English, you need to use them yourself.

That's why you have the chance to write your own sentences using what you learned and get personal feedback.

Here's how it works:

  • You learn something in Plain English (for example, an Expression)

  • You write a sentence using the Expression. Write anything you like!

  • You'll get personal, human feedback on your writing, with encouragement and tips to improve.

Share your opinion about Stories

When you listen to Stories at Plain English, you'll probably have some thoughts. You might agree or disagree with the perspective shared. You might have had a similar or related experience in your own life.

After you finish listening to a Story, write a brief reaction. This helps you get further engaged in the Story you just heard. It also helps you learn to express your ideas on a variety of topics. You'll get practice sharing your opinion and making an argument.

After you share your opinion, you'll get a response from the Plain English team (and possibly from other members). It's a great way to keep up a brief conversation about an interesting topic.
